On 1st July 1997 the Party Wall Etc. Act 1996 came into force, placing responsibilities on all building owners who wish to undertake work on a party wall or within six metres of a neighbouring property.
West & Partners are able to advise building owners who wish to embark upon such a construction project.
The company is also able to act as Party Wall Surveyors appointed by either party.
The Act requires that an agreement (known as An Award) shall be made by an appointed surveyor in order to safeguard both parties' interests should the proposed works cause any damage to the neighbour's property.
Delays in serving the appropriate notices could mean that the proposed works are unable to start or may be halted by an injunction.
